Trying to relax and quiet your mind can be a challenge, and cause stress to build up to unmaneagable levels; often affecting our overall mood and emotions.
Trust me, I’ve been there. I used to come home from work stressed out, feeling angry, and not wanting to work on projects I knew would make me happy. Until I started incorporating meditation into my life, which is what I’m about to share with you!
In this blog post, I’m sharing (number) tips I learned that helped me to feel more relaxed and ease my chronic stress and negative mindset. I will be going over:

How I incorporated meditation into my routine and started waking up happier
I’ve always had anxiety and struggled with my stress levels and feeling relaxed. But as I became an adult and started taking on more responsibility, my stress levels only increased, leading to bad moods and no energy.
I so badly wanted to be happy and feel peaceful. I tried changing my job, my routines, my space; everything external I could think of I changed in hopes it would make me feel better. I would have a couple good weeks after I got a new job or rearranged me room, but would always fall back into a state of unhappiness and stress.
Until I finally hit my breaking point. I couldn’t handle the amount of stress I was carrying, I was fed up with coming home feeling completely drained and angy, taking it out on family memebers that didn’t deserve to be talked to like that.
I had seen some posts on Pinterest about meditation and started doing more research on techniques, time, music, tips and tricks, etc.
Then I started reading all about stress and relaxation; how stress can affect your body and your mind, how to breathe properly, and exactly how to meditate. I noticed my mood started to improve, I had more energy throughout my day, I was being productive, and I was waking up without dread or hitting the snooze button 5 times.
Now I wake up, open my blinds first thing, and do my meditation routine. It only takes me 10 minutes in the morning and I feel so much better. I like feeling relaxed and prepared to take on my day every day.
So here’s what I learned and how to incorporate it into your own life. This is how to add meditation to your daily routine and learn about your body and its relationship with stress.
How breathing can affect your energy levels
Something many people don’t consider in relation to stress and their mood, is breathing. When you are stressed, your breaths tend to me more shallow, which can cause your body to not get the amount of oxegyn it needs, leading to you having lower energy levels. This also has the potential to cause your heart rate and blood pressure to be higher.
But when you learn to breathe through your stomach rather than your chest, it can help all that. And what’s even better, not only does breathing through your stomach relieve stress and increase oxegyn levels, it’s also a great technique to use in meditation.
To breathe through your stomach rather than your chest, sit in a quiet place and close your eyes. Breathe in slowly through your nose and allow your stomach to expand, and when you exhale through your nose, let your stomach fall flatter.
Be sure your stomach is rising and falling as you breathe rather than your chest.

How stress affects you
We already talked about how breathing shallowly can lower your oxegyn and energy levels. Now I’m going to share with you other ways stress affects you. When we feel stressed, our body naturally releases chemicals that you have probably heard of, like adrenaline and cortisol. These can increase your heart rate and blood pressure. It’s important we have these chemicals for serious and life threatening situations, but when they build up, it can affect our body and make us feel tired and weak.
When our body is having these intense responses on a daily basis, it can lead to other problems like fatigue, poor digestion and immune system, memory issues, and irritability.
Knowing the affects and causes of stress is important so you can learn to manage your stress and promote relaxation.

How positive affirmations work
Something I haven’t touched on much yet, but has also made a huge difference in my life, is positive affirmations. Basically positive affirmations are phrases you repeat to yourself, like “I am worthy of peace and happiness.” You repeat these phrases to yourself or write them down.
How they work is basically your repeating these things to your mind and teaching it to believe those things. Then your mind flips to thinking positively on its own.

Meditating without setting aside a whole hour
There is a misconception that whehn you meditate, you have to maditate for an hour or some crazy amount of time. This turns a lot of people off and they say they don’t have the time, and never try it. But you don’t have to spend an hour meditating to reap the benefits.
You can literally take just 10 minutes out of your day to meditate and still be able to relieve stress and relax your mind. Once you learn how to meditate and incorporate breathing, you can put it all together in just a few minutes.
All you really need to meditate is a quiet space, a comfortable seat or bed, and proper breathing and visualization techniques.
Once I learned how stress was affecting my daily life and how to manage it, I became happier, had more energy, and felt confident in my ability to meditate and bring instand peace. I no longer come home in a bad mood devoid of all energy. With these tips and techniques, I was finally able to achieve a happier life!
